He also showed off a selection of some of the great items they have for sale and since ReRun Consignment accepts items in all categories, from clothing to furniture, they have a wide variety of merchandise.

• Larger items such as furniture, art or lamps can be pre-approved if you email us a photo.• During your appointment, your items will be sorted to determine which are sellable.

• Our staff will create a consignment code unique to you.

• We keep track of every transaction so that as your items sell, we have a record of your daily sales.

• Your funds are available to you the month after the item sells.

We have some friends who can totally do the garage sale thing, but we just can’t embrace it. We love a good thrift store and we get palpitations when we happen upon a vintage-clothing store, but the prospect of rooting around in someone’s front yard for old knick-knacks just isn’t for us.

Which is why we adore Rerun – it’s like a fun garage sale/thrift store/vintage store where the good stuff has been picked out for you. They also do consignment, and you can schedule an appointment to bring in your treasures. Plus they sell clothing by local designers who have reworked choice vintage items, and handcrafted goods by local artisans – everything from paintings to jewelry. And if you make or create something good, there’s a chance they’ll consign it for you! So Rerun could be your big break!

You’ll find everything from groovy glass vases to cool leather jackets and fun furniture, and the most appealing assortment of whatnot and tchochkes – everything from a huge owl cookie jar to tablecloths from India and teacups from England. Better than a front yard, any day.

ReRun: a neighborhood consignment store

I’ve waxed poetic about the joys of a thrift store, but this resale shop deserves a special write-up.

ReRun, a neighborhood consignment store, is a bustling outlet for all things needing a new home. Housed in the made over storefront where the enigmatic “Mrs. C’s Wigs” once lived behind boarded up windows, ReRun is a destination for neighborhood and cross-town residents alike.

You can spot ReRun from down the street by the line-up of colorful chairs, desks and other furniture items spilling out into the parking lot. Since it was a Friday morning, I was surprised by the twenty or so people inside the store sifting through the well-stocked,

but organized racks of jackets, pants, shirts and household miscellaneous. [Has old-school thrifting made a comeback in Portland?] Many of the items I spotted were in good to excellent condition and the prices, though not rock-bottom, were reasonable. If you are looking to get rid of a few of your extras, you can also leave your items here on a consignment basis, with a small percentage going to the store and the rest, into your pocket. I even had the chuckle of seeing a handmade cd holder I sold at a garage sale last year on the racks. I almost bought it, just for nostalgia, but decided to let it go – after all that is the magical life of thrift – what goes around comes around.

All The Old Stuff’s New Again

The wig store that formerly occupied the northeast corner of Northeast Fremont Street and Seventh Avenue was such a low-key retail presence it was sometimes hard to tell if it was open for business. Not so with the splashy resale store Rerun (707 N.E. Fremont St., 503-517-3786), which has carved out an eclectic niche for itself since opening last year. Half of the sizable parking lot out front is taken up by a scattering of furnishings, most of them from the post-midcentury decades suggested by the store’s ’70s-style design.

Trippy ambient music and other funky stuff plays on the sound system, advertising the place’s alternative vibe, as mostly young shoppers leaf through several clothing racks where man-made fibers dominate. There are nice deals in the shelves full of books, videos, CDs and other miscellany. A recent find was an unopened pack of 1990 Fleer baseball cards for $1 that had Ken Griffey Jr. in his first full season with the Mariners. That’s gotta be worth something. (EB)
